ESCHL Announces End of Season Awards

SYRACUSE, NY – The Eastern States Collegiate Hockey League has announced the end of the season awards for the 2021-22 season. Stony Brook’s Brendan Pepe has won the ESCHL Player of the Year, Rhode Island’s Curits Briggs has won Rookie of the Year, and Rhode Island’s Joe Augustine has been named the conference Coach of the Year. These awards are voted on by the six head coaches in the conference. 

Brendan Pepe finished 5th in the nation in scoring amongst defenseman – recording 11 goals and 19 assists in 30 games played. The 5th year senior captained his Seawolves to ESCHL regular season championship finishing 13-3-1 in conference play and 19-6-2 overall. The Essex Fells, NJ native also won the ESCHL Player of the Month award in October.

 Curtis Briggs finished his 2021-22 campaign with 2.62 goals against average with a .920 save percentage. Briggs also led all ESCHL goaltenders with 3 shutouts. The first year netminder from Foster, RI also recorded 14 wins in 25 games played. Briggs won ESCHL Player of the Month honors for the month of November.

 Joe Augustine finished up his 32nd regular season as Head Coach of Rhode Island with a 6-2 win over Lehigh last weekend. Augustine led the Rams to 12-6-0 ESCHL conference record – finishing in 3rd place in the standings just 1 point behind the University of Delaware. URI has also been ranked in the top 25 in the country for most of the season and currently sit at #22.
